Why does Australia require 1100x1100 pallets instead of 1200x1000?
Australia standardized pallet sizes under AS 4068 from the 1990s - before ISO 6780 became the common international standard. The 1100x1100 mm size derives from Australian and Japanese truck design - the standard Japanese truck body width (2.2 m) fits exactly two 1100 mm pallets. Supermarket warehouses for Woolworths, Coles and other major Australian distributors are built around this size.
Vietnamese exporters of agricultural produce, seafood and food to Australia must switch to 1100x1100 mm pallets at the port of export, or use them from the start, to avoid costly re-palletizing in Australia.

For export teams, Australia has the strictest plant and animal quarantine rules in the world. Wooden pallets entering Australia must meet three requirements at once: (1) ISPM-15 with HT or MB treatment - non-negotiable; (2) wood fully debarked with no bark on any board; (3) no borer holes, insect signs, or mold/fungus. The Australian quarantine authority (DAWE) inspects 100% of imported wood containers and has the world's highest return/destruction rate when violations are found. For procurement teams, exporting to Australia offers two options: buy new Loscam-compatible pallets (higher cost but full ownership) or rent from the Loscam pool (rental fees but no upfront capital). Not necessarily. "Loscam" here refers to the size and standard (1100x1100 mm, AS 4068) - you can buy new pallets built to this exact standard from ICD Vietnam without going through Loscam's rental system. If your Australian partner requires genuine Loscam-branded pallets with a Loscam logo, you must contact Loscam Asia Pacific directly to rent them. In most cases, a pallet of the correct size and AS 4068 standard is sufficient.
Can the Loscam 1100x1100 pallet be used in domestic Vietnamese warehouses?
Yes - but it is less space-efficient than 1200x1000 mm for Vietnamese warehouses. Domestic VN trucks and warehouses are optimized for 1200x1000 mm. If a company exports to Australia/Japan and wants a single unified pallet type, use 1100x1100 for both. If it ships both export and domestic, two separate pallet types are needed.
