Why a square 1000x1000 over a rectangular pallet
When cargo is square or round, a square pallet delivers three specific advantages:
- Stable center of gravity: round containers (200-liter drums, gas cylinders) sit on a square pallet with equal clearance to each edge, so they are less likely to tip than on a rectangular pallet
- Even load distribution: square equipment (electrical cabinets, machine housings) contacts all four pallet edges evenly, with no excess in one direction as on a 1200x1000
- No orientation: a forklift can approach from any side equally, reducing the need to rotate the load

Frequently asked questions
Why use 1000x1000 instead of 1200x1000?
The 1200x1000 has a larger deck area but a rectangular shape. With 200-liter drums about 580 mm in diameter, four drums on a 1200x1000 leave a 40 mm gap along the length, so drums shift easily. On a 1000x1000, four drums in a 2x2 layout fit more snugly and ride more stably. For square equipment of 900x900 mm, the 1000x1000 saves material and is lighter than a 1200x1000 of the same load rating.
Does the 1000x1000 need ISPM-15 treatment?
Yes, if used for export. ISPM-15 applies to all wood packaging material (wood thicker than 6 mm) in international trade, regardless of size.
